The Subtle Call

Everyone feel silence,
In the midst of work,
Or after a long walk.
But silence is not the challenge,
It is how to keep it.

The restless mind, like a storm, eats the whole being,
Unnecessary talking, acting in doubt and fear.
Yet my body and mind call to me,
“Give me your whole attention,
Nothing is more important than me.
All your work serves me alone—
I guarantee you it will not be easy,
Go subtle, or later don’t blame God for you miseries.”

Slowness

Intense work leaves much joy,
But hyper-talking empties me.
I eat more than usual,
Discomfort becomes intolerable.

I drift away, unsure how to return,
Self-destruction seems the easy choice.
But after many lives, I have learned—
There is no other way than to go inside.

Slowness is not a candy we buy,
It is hard work,
And the very purpose of life.
